The beginning of the year is a time for celebration and reflection. Looking backwards, we confronted critical issues in 2016. From Boko Haram insurgency in the North region, to militancy in the Niger delta region, fuel price and electricity tariff increase, depreciation of the naira amongst others. 2016 will go down in our history as the time when economic recession hit our dearly beloved nation, pushing majority of Nigerians down the poverty ladder. 2016 closed with inflation at an 11 year high of 18.5%, rising unemployment at 13.8% and the economy expected to contract by a minimum of 1.7%. Indeed, year 2016 was a challenging one for most Nigerians, especially the youth who are the major stakeholders of the Nigerian enterprise.

As we begin 2017, I am filled with optimism for the Nigerian youth. I look forward to the New Year with renewed hope and unshakable faith that our nation will be restored, our nation will rise again, our nation will prosper again and our nation will be celebrated again. At Salimo-Wits Foundation, we remain whole heartedly committed to our vision of building leaders and berthing change with global impact. Although, the road ahead and the task before us is challenging and herculean; Salimo-Wits Foundation will continue to provide the youth platform and opportunities to reach their full potential and to realize their dreams. We will continue to ignite within our beneficiaries the passion to aspire, learn, create, grow, innovate and lead. We remain steadfast in our support and work with the youth as partner and friend.

I send a heartfelt thank you to each and every one who made 2017 grand for Salimo-Wits Foundation. I am grateful for the support of friends, partners and all the youths of Salimo-Wits. As we welcome the year 2017, my dear friends, let us be reminded that, “Tough Times Never Last, but Tough People Do!” Once again, I wish you and your families a happy and prosperous New Year.

God Bless You and God Bless Nigeria.
Dan Ekoko {President}
Salimo-Wits Foundation.
