mandela.jpg 4Today is Nelson Mandela Day – a global call to action for people around the world to make a difference in the communities where they live and work by taking time to serve others. The theme behind the Day is – “Take action, Inspire change” which highlights the importance of working together to build a peaceful, sustainable and equitable world. Perhaps, this is the best tribute we can pay to an extraordinary man who who devoted 67 years of his life to the service of humanity. The commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day is an opportunity to reflect on the life, principles and works of an icon and legend. The bold life of Nelson Mandela is full of lessons on leadership. He taught us important lessons in self-belief, perseverance, resilience, humility, leading by example and servant-leadership. Perhaps, the greatest lesson Madiba offered us in his lifetime is on ‘Forgiveness.’

At his inaugural Presidential speech in 1994, he said, “We enter into a covenant that we shall build the society in which all South Africans, both black and white, will be able to walk tall, without any fear in their hearts, assured of their inalienable right to human dignity – a rainbow nation at peace with itself and the world.”

As we remember and celebrate one of the world’s loved hero, democrats and leader whose life continue to inspire millions around the world and show us the way; I urge you to: “Take action, Inspire change.” Today, devote 67 minutes of your time to helping others, as a way to remember Nelson Mandela. Tutor a child. Feed the hungry. Reach out to the poor. In the words of Madiba, “It is in your hands to make of our world a better one for all, especially the poor, vulnerable marginalised.” To everyone, everywhere, I say: Let’s take action! Let’s inspire change in our world. ‪#‎CelebratingNelsonMandelaDay‬ ‪#‎DanEkoko‬ ‪#‎MotivationalMonday‬
